Zimbabwe
"The
Low-Veld of Southeast Zimbabwe"
About
the Outfitter...
| Pierre
conducted safaris in the Central African Republic from 1976 to
1990. He free-lanced in Tanzania and Cameroon for a couple of
years and then spent the next 2 years surveying several countries
in Africa as to where he wanted to settle permanently. In 1994
he bought 100,000 acres in Southeast Zimbabwe near the Gonerezou
National Park. He has been developing it for his safari business
ever since. He began to take clients in 1998. He employs selected
Professional Hunters to conduct the actual hunts. |
 |
About the Area...
This specific area
lies 60 kms northeast of the Beitbridge crossing into South Africa.
The vegetation is a combination of Mopane forest and Mopani scrubland
punctuated with intermittent grasslands. The vegetation along the Bubi
River is riverine. It is a game rich area. The property had not been
hunted for 5 years previously! The ranch lies on the south side of the
Buby River, which flows southward into the Limpopo River that in turn
defines the border with South Africa.
About the Animals...
|
|
The
current array of species available is listed in the trophy fee section.
It represents the wide variety of species that can be found in Zimbabwe.
The most often requested species of kudu and leopard are both abundant
on this land. Pierre stated to me recently that "there is an
incredible density of animals" on his new property. The first
two clients took in 1998 two kudus that measured over 59 inches!
And all of the nyala taken have qualified for the SCI trophy book.
All of the species taken bymy first two |
|
clients in 1999 qualified forthe SCI Record book except for a Steenbuck
that missed by 3/16th of an inch. |
About the Weather...
Weather varies a
great deal in all of southern Africa. Generally, March and April are
the mildest temperatures with July being the coldest. By October the
weather is getting very warm. Bring sufficient clothes to layer for
cold mornings and hot afternoons. Malaria preventative tablets are required
for travel in Zimbabwe.
|
About Booking
Dates...
About booking
dates: The best periods for hunting are: May-June when the grass
is still green and highest in June. and September-October. The
grass is dry and beginning to fall over by September; the animals
begin to concentrate around the water sources. Also baiting for
leopard is much easier during this period. The heavy rains will
definitely begin by November when the mud prohibits ground mobility..
No bookings are taken for the month of July due to the cold, windy
conditions.

Tips
& Gratuities...
Be
sure to coordinate the amount of tips with Pierre prior to conclusion
of the safari. Inappropriate amounts can cause very serious morale
and discipline problems within the staff. This is a sensitive area!
