Southern Spain
"Hunt in Southern Spain on a Traditional Monteria"

We are sole agents for two of the most acknowledged Monteria organizers in Spain, Monterias Cencerra and Monterias Chamocho.

In all the world, this very old and traditional hunting system is practiced only in Southern Spain. The same rules and traditions of the 13th century are used. The only things that have changed are the weapons and the fact that you do not have to belong to the aristocracy.

Huge numbers of dogs are used, sometimes up to 900, to force game out of the valleys of thick brush toward lines of pre-positioned shooters. Hunting areas are covered with a thick bush called "jara" that makes stalking game silently virtually impossible. Dog leaders and beaters use thick leather pants to walk in it for protection. Hunting stands are composed of two hunters and if they want, one non-hunter (photographer) can join each of them. There is a free shooting quote for every hunting stand depending on availability.

No trophy fees are charged, regardless of quality of shot game, even if you shoot a gold medal beast. Wild boars are always free regardless of size and number.

Last hunting season, 2,175 deer, 379 wild boars and 170 mouflon and fallow deer were shot in approximately 42 Monterias. All of this occurred from October to February with all hunts conducted every Saturday and Sunday.

Monteria is such an intensive way of hunting that ONLY ONE SINGLE DAY A YEAR is allowed in the same hunting area. Some good shooting skills are required, as game is almost constantly running at full speed to escape from dogs. Fast reloading for next shots is also important. When dogs attack wounded game, you are not allowed to shoot as you would surely hit a couple of dogs. The wounded game which is being "held" by the dogs must be finished off by

means of a special knife by yourself or wait until one of the beaters does it. We would not recommend inexperienced hunters do it, especially in the case of a wild boar fighting the dogs. It can be very, very risky...

Monterias are one of the most exciting kinds of hunts in the world. Full of noises, colors, scenes so concentrated and intense which make them impossible to forget. It is truly a "hunt of a lifetime!"

Program Itineray

Thursday: Our guests are picked up at Seville airport. We help them with custom formalities concerning their guns. Dinner together and overnight in a hotel in Seville.

Friday: After breakfast, city tour in Seville. Lunch together and transfer to the city of Andujar, around 180 kmts. Dinner together and overnight in a hotel.

Saturday: Wake up at around 6 AM. We drive more or less one hour to the finca (hunting area or manor house). After the Monteria, we drive back to the same hotel in Andujar.

Sunday: Second Monteria in a different location. We drive directly to Seville. Overnight in a hotel in Seville.

Monday: After breakfast, transfer to the airport. Undergo the Spanish customs formalities. End of the program.

Our program is fully guided. Clients are always together with us, even at the hunting stand where we can use our hunting experience to increase success possibilities.

The organizers of the Monterias all speak English, French and German and they have more than 20 years of experience as far as Monterias are concerned. The time they spend together with our clients before the Monterias is totally dedicated to transfering as much information as possible, with

pictures, comments and eventually some videos in order to give them enough data to have an exact idea of the meaning of Monteria.

This is our standard program for European hunters. There is no inconvenience to modify it to suit American hunters better, especially concerning the possible combination with a standard tourism program. However, Monteria dates cannot be changed, as they always are on Saturday and Sunday.
