A unique opportunity to hunt an area that was not hunted for many years.

Along Canada's northern most Arctic coast you will find some of the most unique and prized big game in the world. The guides have been providing guided hunts to sportsman from around the world since 1969. Success rates are very high. All hunts are one on one with every effort being made to ensure a successful hunt. The guides are all local Inuvialuit who have spent a lifetime learning the land and its wildlife.

Polar Bear...

As the largest carnivores on earth, polar bear can exceed Alaska's brown bear in body weight and size. They are the masters of the Arctic Sea life. They are unquestionably the top of the food chain.

This is a demanding two-week hunt where you will be travel to two main hunt areas by dog sled. Once within the area, you will travel far and wide every day, taking your camp with you to increase your chances for success. There is always the possibility of storms that can come up without warning.

Hunts are conducted in the late winter to late spring. There are 8 hunts beginning the 15th of January when there is sufficient daylight in which to conduct a hunt.

Although the temperatures are lower in January and February, the bears are hunted with confidence along the pressure ridges where they in turn are hunting the seals. There are also fewer storms in the dead of winter.

In March, April, and the first week of May, the mating season is in progress and the big boars are moving around a lot. The temperature is not quite as cold, but the windstorms occur with greater frequency, which increases the wind chill factor substantially.

It is a myth that the best times are only in March and April!

Keep in mind that obtaining permits to hunt these magnificent beast have become much harder to obtain each year for the past 5 years. The permits are allocated by the Government in late June each year and normally they are booked mid mid-July. do not be fooled by other agents that will book 2 and 3 years in advance as it can not be done legally or ethically.

Barren Ground Grizzly...

The Barren Ground grizzly is a distinct member of the bear family. They can reach weights of 700 to 800 pounds and heights of 8 feet. On the whole, they are smaller than the coastal brownies of Alaska, hence they have a niche all of their own in the animal kingdom. They are considered a separate record book entry for Safari Club International and the Boone and Crockett Trophy Record Books. These bears vary in coloration well as temperament. They are truly exciting to see on the tundra of the far northern arctic.

Grizzly is hunted after they come out of hibernation in April and May when their coats are in prime condition. You will be taken inland by snow machine and sled to the hunting area where you will camp in tents.

For many years hunting has been closed for this special bear, but permits are now available on a very limited basis. This necessitates clients having to make a commitment at least a year in advance to compete because the tags have been limited to 5 to 8 bear per year. This is a real success story in game management. The trick is to book early!

Barren Ground Muskox...

This beast should be called the "arctic buffalo" by all rights as it does not have a musk gland, nor is it an ox. It is a regal animal with a long flowing coat and heavy, curled horns. The biggest Muskox comes from the mainland and the slightly smaller Muskox is their island counterparts - the Greenland Muskox.

The animals are plentiful, but are spread over an expansive area. The hunt will be normally conducted between the scheduled Tuesday and Friday flights out of Inuvik to Paulatuk. You will be taken by snow machine into the hunting area to set up camp. Normally, you will be able to see several scattered bands of Muskox before making the final stalk on foot to take your trophy. Regulations ensure that this is a fair chase hunt.

Hunts are conducted in March and April with the season closing on 30 April.

The fall hunt is conducted in October after the ground is frozen. A chartered bush plane will fly the clients south from Inuvik to reach "treeline". There is Central Canadian Barren Ground Caribou available on this hunt! THIS IS A GREAT COMBO HUNT!
