In the northwest corner of Uruguay, near the Uruguay River, is an 22,000 acre ranch named "El Tesoro de Los Búfalos" (The Treasure of the Buffalos). The environmental conditions on this ranch are perfect for the Asiatic water buffalo. First introduced eighteen years ago by the ranch owner, they have multiplied and spread throughout the area to the point where the buffalo are now causing trouble in the extensive rice plantations.

The ranch has never been hunted previously, and the buffalo population is now estimated at over 400, many of which are over twenty years old! Hedgpeth's Adventures in Hunting is the first hunting company allowed on the ranch and we have permission to harvest twenty buffalo per year in order to keep a stable population and retain top quality trophies.

After visiting the ranch in early May 2001 and observing the several herds of buffalo, we have no doubt that your trophy will qualify for the SCI Record Book and most likely qualify as Top Ten or Gold Level as a minimum. We are not aware of any other place in all of South America where you will find better trophies on a more consistent basis!

If you fly into Montevideo, Uruguay, you will then take a domestic flight to Salto, Uruguay. There you will be met and driven to the ranch for the start of your hunt. If you fly into Buenos Aires, Argentina, you would then take a domestic flight to Concordia, Argentina, where you would be met by a representative who will help you clear customs at the border between Concordia and Salto and then be driven to the ranch.

Your 4-star hotel is a forty-minute drive away from the ranch. Lunch is served at the ranch while breakfast and dinner are at the restaurant in the hotel.

After the "9-11" Terrorist Attack in NYC and Washington, D.C., the government of Uruguay instituted a maximum caliber limit at .243 that can be imported into their country. Our outfitter is allowed to own a .375 that is available for our clients' use during the hunt.
