Hunting
in New Zealand is truly like hunting in Paradise because of
several factors: the terrific weather and climate, the excellent
trophy quality available, the warm, honestly sincere hospitality,
and the incredibly beautiful terrain.
New Zealand offers a variety of big game unlike any other
country in the world. The mountains have become home to animals
that have originally come from many others countries of the
world: the chamois from Europe, the tahr from Asia, several
species of deer from Europe and the United Kingdom, plus white-tailed
deer and elk from the United States.
|
The
Country...
 |
New
Zealand consists of two islands--North Island and South Island.
Seventy-four percent of the population of the 3.25 million people
live on the North Island with the densest population being in
the northern most towns and cities. The land ranges from coastal
plains to the high mountains called the Southern Alps. Fifty
percent of the total land mass is used for grazing livestock
which is made up of mostly sheep that outnumber the human population.
Forested land comprises 15 percent. There is still plenty of
land for hunting! The vast majority of the |
| dear
and sheep hunting is conducted on well managed preserves which
insures your safety and a proper hunt. |
Hidden in the heart of the North Island of New Zealand lies this secluded
5,000 acre hunting preserve. Due to the ruggedness of the ridgelines
and valleys, the surface area is equivalent to 20,000 acres of natural
habitat for the wildlife! It is one of New Zealand's last frontiers
where trophy stags abound. Your fair chase hunt will be set in majestic
native forest and rugged hill country. From atop the highest hills,
breathtaking views of Mount Ruapehu, Mount Tongariro and Mount Ngauruahoe
are afforded.
Firearms
& Ammunition...
There
are no problems as firearms licenses are obtainable at the port of entry,
Auckland or Christchurch. No pistols are allowed however.
The
Free Roaming Red Stags Provide the Ultimate Challenge...
| This
is especially what most hunters come for! During the "roar' or
"rut" in late March to mid May, the hunting is truly exhilarating.
Your guides at this venue will provide essential local knowledge to
ensure a successful hunt. Either the well appointed ranch house styled
lodge or and the basic chalet with ensuite facilities located in the
backcountry will provide comfortable accommodation for hunters and
non-hunters alike. Your hosts are proud to offer the warmest Kiwi
hospitality to make your stay most enjoyable. This operation is primarily
a Red deer venue for the hunter looking for trophy stags with 12 to
20 tines. |
Weather
Conditions & Seasons...
|
Big game is
pursued from February through August with the majority of clients
coming for the "roar' in March-May. The weather can become
rainy, windy, cold and damp as the seasons progress into winter.
Ducks are taken from May through July with 25 being the limit.
Geese are unlimited and pursued in February and March then again
in May through August. Pheasant, pigeon and quail are also available
upon request.
A clothing and equipment list is furnished upon receipt of deposit.
